Chandigarh: In a new notification, the state government in Punjab has said that people who have domestic animals will have to pay tax.
A notice issued by the state government says people living in Punjab and having dog, cat, pig, sheep deer etc as domestic animal will have to pay a tax of Rs 250 per year.
For those having buffalo, bull, camel, horse, cow, elephant etc at their homes, the annual tax outgo would be Rs 500.
The notice further states that a "branding code" would be allocated to each animal. The animal would also be embedded with a microchip, the government added.
